Dog Grooming Courses FAQs

Absolutely. After a short induction we get you cracking! Clipping, scissoring, bathing and handling all from day 1. Our courses are hands-on so you’re not just watching professional groomers work, you’re actually grooming from the day you arrive. However, there’s no need to be nervous – we’re right by your side guiding you every step of the way.

No, we supply all equipment for the duration of your course. We suggest you don’t buy any of your own equipment until you begin your chosen course, that way you can see what you need and what you don’t need to buy.

No. We have an extensive database of dog models for learners to work with during their training. You will groom a wide variety of breeds, fur types, temperaments and sizes whilst you learn with us.

Year round, to demand.
Absolutely. We give you a pack on your first day with loads of information from how much to charge, where to get equipment, how to record client details, and much more. Each learner will also receive a free dog first aid DVD for peace of mind.
That is completely up to the individual. We will give you a sheet for each breed you groom so notes can be made. Some people make notes, some don’t; everyone retains information differently. We will go through the notes you make with you to ensure they are correct.
Yes, while taking one of our courses you will need to find a place to stay nearby. Check out our accommodation page for some local options.

No more than 3 learners at any one time.

If you can do a course in a block Monday-Friday that would be the best way to retain the information. However, if this isn’t possible we can discuss some dates to suit but they would have to fall within a month of your start date or you’ll simply forget what you’ve learned. We know that’s not ideal if you work full time, but in the long run this method will benefit you greatly.

Courses are Monday to Friday from 10am and run until you finish your dog/s for the day (usually around 4-5pm). We are closed at weekends.

No need to worry, we are here! Aftercare is included in the price of the course; via phone or email, whenever you may need us.
We require a £200 deposit per person to hold your chosen dates. Full payment is due 7 days before your start date as the dog models will have been booked in for you. You can pay by bank transfer, credit/debit card or by cheque.
Yes. If you would like to use your own dog as one of your models just let us know when you book so we can fit them into your schedule.
Paw Pad courses are practical hands on training for those wanting to groom dogs belonging to the general public. It is not a City & Guilds course; City & Guilds is absolutely not a requirement to become a dog groomer – contact your local council who will confirm this. It is aimed at show grooming rather than pet grooming (we can teach you how to groom show dogs if required but please be aware this type of grooming is undertaken by the show dog owner or breeder, not by a commercial groomer). And we will ensure you know all the ethical and technical aspects of pet grooming before you graduate as well as what the average client would expect from you. Our business advice includes tips about gaining a healthy client base and getting repeat customers.

We are a private adult education centre and offer our own commercial dog grooming qualification which meets the very high standard needed to groom pet dogs. We teach the practical cuts you’ll be asked for on a daily basis.

Though most learners go on to set up their own businesses, we are happy to offer a reference to anyone who has attended our courses and is seeking employment. No employer we have spoken to has declined a student’s future employment on the basis of our qualification, from small local salon owners all the way up to the Pets at Home in-store national salons. We would be more than happy to discuss this with you further if required.

Dog Daycare FAQs

Yes. We also require proof of Kennel Cough protection too. If you cannot provide a vaccination card with the relevant protection, we will not be able to accept your dog into daycare.

Yes. This is a condition of our license through Cheshire West and Chester’s Animal Welfare Department.

Unfortunately we do not offer half days. You may drop off and pick up your dog anytime between 7.30am and 6.30pm.

It’s always best to contact us before you drop your dog off. That way we know exactly who is in on which days. Late notice is fine, as long as you let us know.

Dog Grooming Salon FAQs

No. The only dogs who need proof of vaccination are dogs attending daycare.

No. The only dogs we require to be neutered/spayed are dogs attending daycare.

Yes as long as you make us fully aware, your dog can come to be groomed. We will ensure they are separated from others to make their visit as stress-free as possible.
